After sun exposure, the skin needs cooling, hydration and restorative care. UV radiation, heat, seawater, chlorine and wind can deplete moisture and leave the skin feeling dry, sensitive, warm or tight.

After-sun care cannot reverse UV damage or prevent photoageing. The best protection remains limiting UV exposure and applying broad-spectrum sunscreen correctly.

Which after-sun product suits your skin?

Warm and visibly red skin
Choose a lightweight cooling gel or lotion. Apply gently without vigorous massage.

Dry or tight-feeling skin
Use a richer cream, balm or nourishing body lotion to help limit moisture loss.

Sensitive skin
Choose a gentle formula and avoid heavily fragranced products if the skin reacts easily.

Face and décolleté
Select an after-sun product or recovery cream suitable for the thinner, more delicate skin of the face, neck and décolleté.

Mature or sun-damaged skin
Combine hydration with antioxidant and restorative care. Avoid strong acids, scrubs and retinol immediately after intensive sun exposure.

Directions for use

After sun exposure, gently cleanse the skin with lukewarm water and a mild face or body wash. Avoid hot water, exfoliating scrubs and rough washcloths.

Pat the skin dry and generously apply after-sun care to the face and/or body. Distribute gently without rubbing sensitive skin. Reapply whenever the skin begins to feel dry or tight again.

Drink sufficient water and avoid further sun exposure until redness and sensitivity have completely subsided.

Avoid after sun exposure

Temporarily avoid the following on red, warm or sensitive skin:

Retinol and other vitamin A products
Glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid
Intensive peels and facial scrubs
Heavily fragranced products
Products with a high alcohol content
Very hot showers and baths
Intensive massage

Resume active skincare only when the skin feels calm, comfortable and fully recovered.

Important sunburn advice

After-sun care may soothe mild redness and dryness but is not a treatment for severe sunburn. Seek medical advice in the event of blistering, severe pain, swelling, fever, nausea, dizziness, dehydration or sunburn covering a large area.

Do not break blisters or expose sunburned skin to further sunlight.
