Skincare after a cosmetic procedure
Skincare after a cosmetic procedure
After a peel, microneedling, dermaplaning, hydrodermabrasion, laser procedure or other cosmetic treatment, the skin may temporarily look red or feel warm, dry, tight and unusually sensitive.
During this recovery period, the skin mainly needs rest, hydration and protection. A short routine consisting of a gentle cleanser, soothing serum, suitable recovery cream and daily sun protection is usually sufficient.
Always follow the instructions provided by the practitioner who performed the treatment. The appropriate time to resume cleansing, moisturiser, makeup and sunscreen depends on the procedure and its intensity.
WHICH TREATMENTS MAY REQUIRE AFTERCARE?
• Superficial cosmetic peels.
• Microneedling and nanoneedling.
• Dermaplaning.
• Microdermabrasion and hydrodermabrasion.
• Radiofrequency treatments.
• IPL and laser procedures.
• Intensive facial treatments.
• Professional deep cleansing.
• Injectable treatments, according to practitioner instructions.
• Cosmetic surgery, exclusively according to medical aftercare instructions.
The products in this category are intended for cosmetic care of closed skin. Do not apply ordinary skincare to open wounds, stitches, bleeding skin, blisters or infected areas.
WHAT DOES THE SKIN NEED AFTER TREATMENT?
• Gentle cleansing without rubbing.

• Soothing care with cica or other calming ingredients.
• Barrier support with ceramides and lipids.
• A simple routine without unnecessary exfoliation.
• UV protection as soon as the practitioner permits it.
• Sufficient time to recover naturally.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT
Follow the practitioner’s instructions exclusively. Depending on the procedure, you may be advised not to cleanse, wet or touch the skin with cosmetics for a specified period.
Do not apply an arbitrary cream when a particular medical or professional aftercare product has been prescribed.
SIMPLE RECOVERY ROUTINE
Once cleansing and skincare are allowed:
Wash your hands thoroughly.
Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser.
Pat the skin dry with a clean, soft towel.
Apply one soothing or hydrating serum if needed.
Use a simple recovery moisturiser.
Apply the recommended sunscreen during the day.
Touch the skin as little as possible.
SUITABLE COMBINATIONS
• Hyaluronic acid with a barrier-supporting cream.
• Panthenol with ceramides or skin-related lipids.
• Cica with a simple hydrating moisturiser.
• A soothing serum with a fragrance-free cream.
• A recovery moisturiser with broad-spectrum sun protection.
• A cooling mask with a short, gentle routine when masks are permitted.
Avoid using every product at once. One serum and one moisturiser are usually sufficient during early recovery.
TEMPORARILY AVOID
• Retinol and other vitamin A products.
• AHA, BHA and PHA acids.
• Glycolic and salicylic acid.
• Strong low-pH vitamin C formulas.
• Scrubs, cleansing brushes and peel-off masks.
• Strong foaming or degreasing cleansers.
• Products containing high levels of drying alcohol.
• Fragrance if the skin reacts to it.
• Self-tanning products and heavily fragranced makeup.
• At-home microneedling or radiofrequency devices.
• Heat, saunas, steam treatments and very hot showers.
• Swimming and strenuous exercise while the practitioner advises against them.
MAKEUP AND SUN PROTECTION
Do not apply makeup until the practitioner confirms that it is safe. After microneedling, patients are often advised to wait at least 24 hours, although deeper procedures may require a longer period.
Once permitted, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every morning. Avoid direct sunlight, consider wearing a hat and reapply sunscreen regularly.
AFTER INJECTABLES OR SURGERY
Botulinum toxin, fillers, thread lifts and surgical procedures require specific aftercare. Do not massage treated areas or apply cosmetics to injection sites, incisions, stitches or wounds without permission from the practitioner.
These cosmetic products do not replace prescribed wound care, medication or medical aftercare products.
WHEN SHOULD YOU CONTACT THE PRACTITIONER?

• Pus, an unpleasant smell or fluid from a wound.
• Fever or feeling unwell.
• Severe swelling, blistering or bleeding.
• Intense itching or hives.
• Skin discolouration following injectable treatment.
